Acting Chair, Ajimobi Inaugurates APC Edo Election, Appeal Panels

BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – Amid internal crisis rocking the party, acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has formally inaugurated the Edo State Election and Appeal panels to conduct its governorship primaries on Monday, June 22, 2020.

The primary poll is to select APC’s candidate for the September 19 governorship election in the South South state.

Ajimobi said the inauguration was in line with the National Working Committee (NWC)’s resolutions reached at its 45th emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the former Oyo State governor, the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led election committee is tasked with conducting the Edo primary while the Appeal panel will handle issues and complaints that may arise from the exercise.

Ajimobi, who was represented by the National Vice Chairman South South, Ntufam Hillard Eta, said; “The party has commenced the process of the Edo primaries with the inauguration of Screening Committee and the Appeal Committee of that screening. So we are almost at the culmination of that process.

“It is with deep humility that I want to announce to Nigerians that those we have selected to do this onerous and herculean job for the party were carefully selected, some of the finest and best amongst us.”

The acting National Chairman further said; “Their job is very simple, to carry out the process selecting the flag bearer of the party in Edo State and we know that after that exercise, there may be concerns, disagreements, that is why we have constituted members of the APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee”.

In his response, Governor Uzodinma pledged the committee’s resolve to effectively deliver on the assignment, assuring that justice would be done to ensure APC wins the Edo gubernatorial polls

The Imo State governor, who blamed enemies of APC for the party’s current travails, said all issues would be resolved amicably and the party will come out stronger and victorious.

Also, speaking for the five-man Appeal panel, the Secretary, Dr Kayode Ajulo, assured that members would be an impartial body in protecting the integrity of the ruling party.

Noting that the committee has a huge responsibility ahead of it, Ajulo said the assignment “is a great challenge but with God, the committee will deliver”.
