Edo: Obaseki Moves For Shaibu’s Impeachment, Gets Oshiomhole’s Support
…Impeachment process likely to commence on Wednesday
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Governor Godwin Obaseki has tightened the rope round the neck of his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu with a view to get him impeached.
The impeachment moves, all things being equal, is like to commence on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 by the Edo State House of Assembly.
This was as it was gathered that Governor Obaseki has mapped out strategies as well as ensuring that loose ends are properly tightened with members of the Edo State House of Assembly for the impeachment of Philip Shaibu, who was once described as the most powerful Deputy Governor in the country.
Already, the State legislature led by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku has equally perfected plans for the execution of the impeachment of the Deputy Governor that was largely perceived by the legislators as being too over bearing, oppressive and suppressing most lawmakers in the state.
It was gathered that the lawmakers are in jubilant mood and too determined to take a pound of flesh against Comrade Shaibu that had muzzled them over the years.
Forefront News gathered that members of the State House of Assembly were invited by Governor Obaseki on Sunday, March 3, 2024 during which he briefed them on the next step to take against Philip Shaibu, his deputy for moving against the Party to organise a parallel Governorship Primary which brought odium to the PDP and put it in negative view before the public.
Already, 16 lawmakers that cut across party lines have signed the impeachment notice against Philip Shaibu just as it was being expected that the former governor of the State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who has accepted the need to relieve the deputy governor of his position will move to assit in fortifying the support of members of the House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the impeachment of Shaibu his former political godson.
The Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu held a parallel Part primary where he emerged as factional Governorship candidate and later went to the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja and created a scene by demanding that he should be given the Certificate of Return for the Edo State Governorship election scheduled to take place in September 2024.
Forefront News gathered that as part of the plan to achieve a successful impeachment process, the House did not hold session on Monday and would also not seat on Tuesday in order not to allow any unforeseen moves that may derail it.
However, a visibly worried Philip Shaibu is believed to have relocated to Abuja to equally perfect his own plans of scuttling the impeachment moves through the Court.
