Gombe PDP Governorship Campaign Office Set Ablaze By Political Thugs
The Campaign office of the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Mr. Mohammed Barde, was in the early hours of Monday, December 12, 2023 set ablaze by suspected sponsored political thugs.
Details of how the campaign office which is situated close to the Presidential Lodge of the Gombe Government House was burnt were still sketchy as at the time of publishing this story.
However, the PDP has pointedly pointed accusing fingers at the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, saying that the Campaign office was set ablaze by suspected thugs of the APC and destroying the building and properties.
A statement by the Deputy Director-General of Media of the Atiku/Dan Barde Campaign Management Council, Junaidu Usman Abubakar, confirmed the attack on the PDP Governorship Campaign office, stressing that the cowardly attack on the edifice is one of many in the last few months which only affirmed the present Gombe State government’s stand on violence and destruction.
The PDP said that the sponsored violence are a threat to the fragile peace of the state, which must vehemently be rejected by all and sundry.
Abubakar further said; “The PDP Governorship candidate, Alh Muhammad Jibrin Barde has on different occasions rejected violence and political thuggery, stressing the need to engage the resourceful Gombe youth in a meaningful pursuit.
“The Good people of Gombe State are hereby prompted to reject this act of oppression on the ballot comes 2023. The Barde Agenda rests on securing the lives and properties of the people, equal opportunities for the youth and women, rapid infrastructural development and providing a level playing ground for the opposition devoid of any undue oppression,” he said.
In his reaction, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said that the PDP was just looking for cheap publicity, adding that there was no way he could have given such an order.
Governor Yahaya, who spoke through his Director General, Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said that the opposition PDP was in no way a threat to the APC.
According to Misilli; “There is no any reason that the governor or any critical stakeholder in APC would instruct someone to attack the PDP campaign office. PDP is not in any way a threat to the APC because the party has consolidated its hold in the state.
“The governor is a law-abiding citizen, and he cannot instruct or allow someone to break law and order in the state. The PDP is just looking for a way to get cheap publicity and sympathy by torching its campaign office and blaming it on the government.
In his own comment when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Gombe state command, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, said investigation has commenced and frantic efforts are being made to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book.
