Relief has come for the incumbent Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, with the Supreme Court affirming his nomination as the authentic All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming March 11, 2023 poll in the state.

In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday in Abuja, the Apex Court dismissed the appeal challenging Namadi’s emergence during the APC’s primaries in Jigawa State held on May 26, 2022.

Judgment on the appeal, filed by a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Farouk Aliyu against the Deputy Governor was prepared by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and read by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa.

The presiding justices unanimously agreed with the respondents’ counsels, Prince Lateef Fagbemi and Yakubu Ruba, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), that the case was not only frivolous and baseless but also lacking in merit and substance.

Namadi had earlier won the legal battle at the Federal High Court in Dutse as well as at the Court of Appeal sitting in Kano.
