2019 Polls: Kano PDP Crisis Deepens Over Exco Sack, Kwankwaso
BY IBRAHIM UMAR, KANO – Plans by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Working Committee (NWC) to fully integrate the Kwankwasiyya Movement into its Kano chapter have met a brick wall with Party’s Stakeholders rebuffing the purported dissolution of the State executive committee.
Baring their minds to Forefront on developments within the State chapter, some insiders blamed the unfolding drama on the NWC’s desperation to create space for presidential aspirant, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his supporters ahead of the forthcoming PDP primaries, without effective engagement with relevant stakeholders in the State.
But in its official reaction to the dissolution, the State chapter said it is unfortunate that PDP’s NWC took the decision in disobedience of a court order that retrained it from taking action on the matter.
A chieftain of the main opposition party in Kano, Mr Sarki Labaran, who addressed stakeholders and supporters that converged at the PDP’s state Headquarters on Monday, said; “The Peoples Democratic Party in Kano state has rejected the dissolution of the state executive committee as the action was a complete violation of the court order which was issued on August 28.”
Speaking on behalf of the Party’s executive committee members present at occasion, Labaran said members were shocked by the NWC’s decision given that the party leaders were elected to serve for four years.
“The state party leadership, including its elders and all other stakeholders have condemned the action in its entirety and will not accept the injustice,” he said.
He accused former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso, who defected to PDP from APC, of trying to have full control of the party in the state for his selfish interest.
“The party has been doing very well before Kwankwaso and others joined the party. He wants to cause problem for the party,” Labaran fumed.
Also in his remarks at the event, former Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Gambo Sallau challenged the NWC to explain openly their reasons for dissolving the Party’s state executive committee.
At the event were various party stakeholders, including state Deputy chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim KT; Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Musa Danbirni; and some gubernatorial aspirants among others.
“There is nothing wrong in accommodating the Kwankwasiyya group that recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for PDP, but the NWC should have consulted widely with relevant stakeholders before sacking from office the Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa-led Kano State Executive Committee”, one of the competent sources said
Curiously, the NWC did not give any reason for the dissolution announced in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja.
A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice N S. Umar, had on August 28, 2018 restrained the PDP leadership at both National and state level from restructuring Kano state chapter.
