ACCA Honours OAGF With Global Approved Employer Award

BY GLORIA USMAN, ABUJA – The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants has awarded the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), the status of ACCA GLOBAL APPROVED EMPLOYER.

The award was presented to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris at a brief ceremony in his office in Abuja.

The Chief Executive of the ACCA, Helen Brand Obe, who presented the award, said the it is a formal recognition of the commitment of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to the continuous development of finance and accounting policies and professionals.

She said the ACCA is impressed with the OAGF on implementation of accounting policies like the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

Obe also said that the technical, structural and long lasting impact of these policies will contribute to the effectiveness of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Federal Government.   

In his remarks after receiving the award, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, commended ACCA for being a good partner in progress in the promotion of treasury activities, adding that over the years, the Association has trained some staff of the Office of the OAGF, supported the development of the Federal Treasury Academy at Orozo, Abuja.

Idris noted that ACCA played key roles during the launch of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and other key reform initiatives that the OAGF has undertaken on behalf of the Federal Government.

The AGF said the award is a result of the team work of every staff in the OAGF and promised to support staff to pursue courses organised by the ACCA and to become members of the Association.

The ACCA Global Approved Employer Award conferred on the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), implies that the ACCA will, among other privileges, waive the mandatory continuous professional development (CPD) requirement for ACCA members working in all OAGF offices nationwide; offer bulk discounts on globally recognised certifications designed to upscale the expertise of Accountants from across all professional bodies.
