The ongoing investigations into the alleged coup plot by some soldiers against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have reached an advance stage.

This was as it was gathered that investigations have led to identifying about 30 suspects believed to have participated in the planning of the foiled violent coup in which some top officials of government were penciled down for assassination, thus are likely to face trial in both civil and military court martials.

Checks indicate that the special investigating panel constituted to unearth all those involved and the reasons for their plot, has concluded preliminary findings that has enabled it to prepare a report that is expected to be submitted to President Bola Tinubu.

It was furthered gathered that the report identified about 30 suspects whose various roles in the foiled coup were tabulated and recommended for trial.

Some of the officers that were invited for questioning, but found not to have a case to answer are expected to be released from detention soon.

Similarly, it also gathered that seven officers of interest and links to the alleged coup could not be found in their homes, just as their mobile telephone lines have since gone dead, but the manhunt for them is ongoing.

Following the conclusion of the preliminary report, it is expected that the chairman of the Special Investigative Panel, Lt. General Emmanuel Undiendeye, who is also the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), will be meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Chiefs before briefing the President.

About 16 Officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force initially implicated in the foiled coup plot were arrested in late September after intelligence reports indicated they were holding secret meetings and planning to overthrow the government.

But, the identities of the additional suspected officers arrested could not be unveiled as their names were being kept secret by the military authorities.

It was however gathered the Defence Headquarters may likely issue a statement to debrief Nigerians about the findings from the investigation of the coup plot.
