BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Trouble is looming for the immediate past governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo with the searchlight currently on him for alleged illegal sales of some State property during his eighth year tenure.

Already, Dankwanbo, who presided over the North East State as its Chief executive on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s platform and some of his aides have a date with the Gombe State Assets Recovery Committee (GSARC) to explain how some prized State’s assets were sold without due process.

Chairman of the committee, Group Captain Peter Bilal (rtd) said  the invitation extended to ex-Governor Dankwanbo and others officials was to enable them account for some assets that were illegally disposed of in the twilight of his eighth year tenure.

Group Capt. Bilal, who spoke with journalists in Gombe, warned that failure to appear before the panel will certainly lead to legal actions aimed at recovering State assets illegally sold by the immediate past administration.

The retired Air Force Officer alleged that government property, worth billions of Naira, were inappropriately disposed of during Dankwambo’s tenure.

Bilal said; “We call on  Dankwambo, his former Commissioner of Finance and appointees, including his Aide Decamp, Principal Permanent Secretary (PPS) Chief of Staff to respond to the directive.

“Also, the former Security Adviser is to appear before the committee and surrender government property in their possession with immediate effect.”

The Committee Chairman also advised all individuals and group that are in possession of public property illegally to urgently return them to avoid possible sanctions by the State government.

Bilal claimed that it has so far proved difficult to have former Governor Dankwambo and his aides account for their actions in selling State government property without due process as well as some hasty cash withdrawal from government coffers when the administration was already winding down in office.

The Committee boss however said some beneficiaries have voluntarily surrendered disputed property in their possession, adding that the assets so far recovered include vehicles and plots of lands.

He said inventory of the recovered assets currently in the Committee’s custody indicate over 20 vehicles; 35 tricycles; and others still being compiled and documented by relevant officials.

New governor of the State, Inuwa Yahaya had inaugurated the Committee with the mandate to recover all government asset allegedly sold by the Dankwambo’s administration.
