Following the expiration of the two-week ultimatum given the Federal Government to address lingering issues, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced its resolve to embark on a two-week nationwide warning strike.
ASUU stressed that the decision to proceed with the warning strike became inevitable after exhaustive consultations across university campuses nationwide.
The warning strike which is expected to commence on Monday, October 13, 2025 is contained in a memo circulated to all branches of ASUU nationwide.
The union is demanding that the Federal Government should address pending issues that included the signing and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement among others.
The memo signed by Prof. Chris Piwuna, National President of ASUU, expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to respond meaningfully to the union’s demands.
Prof. Piwuna said that the strike is intended to compel the government to fulfill its obligations and prevent a total breakdown of the nation’s public university system.
