Former vice president and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, on Sunday commended President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for making it possible for the release of about 82 kidnapped Chibok girls.
In a statement he personally signed Sunday in Yola, Adamawa State, the Turakin Adamawa described the girls’ freedom from Boko Haram captivity after three years of incarceration. He said the release of the girls showed that Nigerians were capable of rising to confront any challenge once united for a common cause.
He commended the laudable efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the hard work of state security services, and the military for the release of the kidnapped school girls.
“Nigerians stood together as a people and purposed to free these girls Despite the many setbacks, hurdles and periods of discouragement, the government, civil society and the citizens all stood together, and today, we have this victory that we are enjoying as one people,” said Atiku.
Atiku also hailed the Bring Back Our Girls group that has kept hope alive for the parents and the nation.
“However, I encourage that we must all not rest on our oars until the remaining girls still in captivity are released, so that we can finally have a closure on this sad chapter of our country’s history,” the former vice president said.
