Bandits on Wednesday night launched an attack on Badarawa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing no fewer than 11 persons.
Confirming the incident during a town hall meeting organised by the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) in Gusau, the state capital, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media and Public Enlightenment, Malam Ibrahim Dosara, said what was happening in the state was a pure case of criminals unleashing violence on harmless residents.
He disclosed that the state government led by Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has spent a whopping sum of N15 billion, apart from spending an additional N2 billion on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), to tackle the problems of insecurity in the state.
He identified lack unemployment and the greedy quest for wealth as some of the reasons behind the current crimes in the state.
“There is need for something to be done to arrest the killings. Fortunately the Federal Government has responded to the distress call of the state by deploying 1,000 military personnel to combat the criminal elements.
“To combat the security challenges we are currently facing, we must provide the much needed intelligence report to relevant security agencies for prompt action to deal with potential criminals. Our religious leaders must be involved in rallying people for dialogue just as I commend the IDFP for this town hall initiative.”
