Bauchi: Police Arrest Kidnap Suspect Who Abducted His Uncle’s Children

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A suspected kidnapper Abdulkarim Tasiu, who abducted two children of his uncle has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Command in Bauchi State.

The suspect was alleged to have masterminded the kidnap of two minors who are children of his uncle in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

This was announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State command, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, who said that the arrest followed a report by Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani his children, Halima Hamisu, 12 years and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu, 6 years, all of the same address, were kidnapped by an unknown person while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden Fulani town.

Wakil said that upon receipt of the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang swung into action, visited the scene, and established a criminal investigation protocol on the spot.

According to the spokesperson of the police; “A preliminary investigation revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children, later in the day, the suspected kidnapper contacted the family of the victims and demanded the sum of ₦50,000,000 as ransom, using a foreign number to avoid being tracked.

“However, after negotiation, he agreed to collect ₦1,200,000 to be delivered around the Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi.

“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the Division strategically cordoned off the area, which led to the arrest of the suspect at the point of collecting the ransom,” he explained.

CSP Wakil said that further investigation led the operatives to Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were rescued safely and reunited with their parents.

The police said that investigation later unmasked the prime suspect as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a family member of the complainant, who freely confessed to the crime, citing long-standing grudges with his uncle as the motive behind his action.

In a related development, the police command said that on October 21, 2025, intelligence at its disposal indicated a rise in motorcycle theft.

Accordingly, the Bauchi State police Command in collaboration with quasi-security outfits, launched an operation to curb the trend, a development that led to the arrest of one Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of Gwallaga area, Bauchi for being in possession of a suspected stolen motorcycle belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi.

The police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect stole a white Jincheng motorcycle valued at ₦100,000, adding that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

CSP Wakil said that investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court for the established offences.
