Buhari Writes Senate To Confirm Tanko As CJN
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday forwarded the name of Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad to the Nigerian Senate for screening and subsequent confirmation as the substantive CJN.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) had on Wednesday recommended Justice Muhammad to the President for nomination as the country’s Chief Justice.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, read Buhari’s communication conveying Tanko’s name on the floor of the red chamber during plenary.
The President charged the Senate to accord Justice Muhammed’s confirmation the speedy consideration that it deserves.
According to Senator Lawan, the development was based on the latest position adopted by the NJC in its recommendation to the President.
Born on December 31, 1953, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, CFR, was formerly a Justice of the Nigerian Courts of Appeal.
In a related development, the President has also written the upper Legislative chamber informing the lawmakers of his decision to appoint fifteen (15) individuals as Special Advisers in the current dispensation.
