Tasks INEC on level playing field, rancour-free poll
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Special Education, Hajara Danyaro has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for the two candidates participating in the forthcoming by-election for Nasarawa Central constituency in the State House of Assembly.
INEC has scheduled the poll to hold on Saturday, August 8, 2020, following the death of Suleiman Adamu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member that hitherto represented the Constituency.
Adamu died on Thursday, April 30, 2020 as a result of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) complications.
Speaking to newsmen in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, Danyaro urged the electoral umpire to create a conducive atmosphere for fair play and also ensure the election is rancour free
Danyaro however boasted that the by-election will further showcase Nasarawa as a fortified home of APC, saying the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the only party that field a candidate for the poll, has no place and is not reckon with in the North Central state.
According to Danyaro, “We are only asking INEC for a level playing field so that the people of Nasarawa central would determine who represents them and also for the most popular candidate to emerge.
“With a level playing field, APC would be victorious; PDP has nothing to offer to the people of the state”
She further stated that; “i am very optimistic that APC will win the by-election. With the track record of the present administration in Nasarawa state, APC will come out victorious on 8th of August. APC is the only party to vote for as seen in the achievements of our dear President Buhari and Governor AA Sule”
“The performance of APC across the country and our dear state speaks for itself, so I enjoin all and sundry to rally round our candidate for the forthcoming by-election”, Danyaro said.
Going by INEC’s official publication for the poll, PDP is the only opposition party fielding a candidate, Nuhu Bage Bawa, to contest against Ismaila Danbaba of the ruling APC in the state.
