BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – In line with collaborative efforts at containing the rise of coronavirus globally, two Chinese firms, China Great Wall Industry Corporation and China General Chamber of Commerce have donated COVID-19 protective kits and masks to the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.
The donated materials include Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs), facemasks, hand thermometers and thermal thermometers among others.
Making the donations as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards the fight against the pandemic in Nigeria, both companies said their hearts are with the Federal Government of Nigeria in the task of defeating the deadly virus.
Presenting the items to the Finance Minister, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, in Abuja on Monday, President of the China General Chamber of Commerce, Mr Ye Shuijin, said the Chamber represents all Chinese companies currently doing business in Nigeria.
Shuijin described the donation as their contribution to the ongoing fight against COVID-19 in the country, assuring Nigerians and other investors that China is always ready to support Federal Government’s efforts at containing the global health emergency.
In her remarks after receiving the items, the Finance Minister, Mrs. Ahmed, commended the companies and the Chinese government for their long standing partnership and friendship.
A press statement by Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister quoted her as saying; “China has met Nigeria at a point of its needs and we are proud of our relationship with China and we are unapologetic about it”.
According to Mrs Ahmed, “Nigeria and China is a family and we want that to continue” for the overall benefits of both countries and their citizens.
She promised that the items would be judiciously deployed and utilised for the purpose they are meant to achieve.
