BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Barely 24 hours after announcing its boycott of activities in the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State office, members of the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council have recanted their decision.

Having resolved their differences, the Chapel says it has consequently resumed its relationship with the office.

The Chapel’s decision to back down on its earlier hard stance followed an amicable resolution of issues with the intervention of stakeholders led by the State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Garba Dahiru and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado.

After government officials met with the Chapel leadership, an understanding was reached on all contentious issues that led to the action and the decision was thereafter conveyed to members.

With members reviewing the peace meeting outcome, it was agreed that the Chapel should sheath its sword in the overall interest of the State and peaceful co-existence between the media and Bauchi State government.

Conveying the resolution to its members, a statement by the Chapel Chairman, Ahmed Mohammed said; “With the resolutions reached, all members of the Correspondents chapel are expected to continue to cover the activities of the office of the Deputy Governor forthwith.”
