COVID-19: NCDC Reports 1,398 New Cases
Mounting concerns as tally reaches 103,999 cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Going by its daily statistics in recent days, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday reported continuous rise in COVID-19 figures across the country with its confirmation of 1,398 new cases.
With the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers, Oyo and Plateau states crossing the 100 mark on the reported infections list, the latest numbers have now taken the nation’s current tally to 103,999 cases.
With the January rising figures giving health authorities lots of concerns, available data on the NCDC website indicate that “On the 13th of January 2021, 1398 new confirmed cases and nine (9) deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
Further details on its official Twitter handle also showed that; “Till date, 103,999 cases have been confirmed, 82,555 cases have been discharged and 1,382 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
A breakdown of the 1,398 fresh cases confirmed from 23 states of the federation showed as follows: Lagos – (542), FCT – (131), Oyo – (120), Rivers – (113), Plateau – (111), Kaduna – (71), Kwara – (71), Akwa Ibom – (34) and Sokoto – (31).
Also on double digits are: Benue – (28), Ogun -(27), Kano – (26), Kebbi – (17), Osun – (12), Nasarawa – (11), Delta – (10) and Gombe – (10) while reporting single digit are Bayelsa – (9), Borno – (9), Edo – (8), Ekiti – (3), Jigawa – (2), and Katsina – (2)
The disease outfit also stated thus; “Our discharges today include 317 community recoveries in Lagos State, 241 in Kwara State and 134 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.
