COVID-19: Nigeria Reports 964 New Infections
Tally Now 121,566 cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday confirmed 964 new infections of coronavirus (COVID-19), with the country’s tally now put at 121,566 cases.
This is as the disease outfit said a key part of its strategy to contain the deadly virus across the country remains strengthening the states’ response capacity.
According to the NCDC’s official Twitter handle, two deaths were also recorded on the day even as it blamed the surge in infections figures on non-adherence to COVID-19 prevention protocols.
The Centre said; “On the 24th of January 2021, 964 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 121566 cases have been confirmed, 97228 cases have been discharged and 1504 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Of the 964 new cases reported from 19 states, the breakdown indicated thus: Lagos – (360), FCT – (88) Ogun – (73), Imo – (72), Kaduna – (67), Plateau – (57), Abia – (41), Osun – (41), and Rivers – (32)
Others are: Kano – (26), Niger – (24), Benue – (23), Edo – (20), Cross River – (20), Akwa Ibom – (8), Nasarawa – (6), Zamfara – (6), Ekiti – (6) and Jigawa – (4)
On its partnership with the state, the NCDC said; “In Plateau State, our rapid response team and @WHONigeria team paid an advocacy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for Health and Permanent Secretary to discuss challenges in the ongoing #COVID19 response and design needed intervention.”
