BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 124 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, as confirmed figures rose to 54,587 late on Thursday night.

However, the Centre had to make quick adjustments on its reporting chart after acknowledging that it erroneously inputted one (1) additional confirmed case in the day’s overall summary.

The NCDC said on its verified Twitter handle @NCDCgov that the error was corrected from the earlier reported 125 new infections and total of 54,588 cases.

“On the 3rd of September 2020, we erroneously reported 1 additional confirmed case in our summary.

“The new confirmed cases are 124 and the total is 54,587. We apologise for this error and remain committed to ensuring transparent and accurate reporting of test results”, the NCDC said

This is as the Centre also reaffirmed that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

On highlights of events in the last 24 hours, NCDC stated that: “On the 3rd of September 2020, 124 new confirmed cases and 21 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

“Till date, 54,587 cases have been confirmed, 42,627 cases have been discharged and 1,048 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

It stated that of the 124 new cases reported from 13 states of the federation, the breakdown showed Lagos with (42), FCT – (25), Katsina – (14), Kaduna – (11), and Kwara – (8).

Other states that appeared on the daily infection chart are: Ondo – (7), Delta – (4), Anambra – (3) Oyo – (3), Edo – (2), Ogun – (2), Osun – (2) and Cross River – (1)
