COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Reports 481 New Cases As Global Tally Crosses 17m Mark
Nigeria’s total now 42,689 cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Thursday night confirmation of 481 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country contributed to lifting the infection numbers past 17 million cases worldwide.
By the NCDC’s latest statistics, the 481 new cases have also pushed Nigeria’s tally of confirmed cases to 42,689 while the total global figures now stand at 17,005,983 cases.
Data captured on the Centre’s verified Twitter handle showed that five deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the fatality figure countrywide to 878 deaths.
According to the NCDC; “On the 30th of July 2020, 481 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 42,689 cases have been confirmed; 19,,270 cases have been discharged and 878 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)”
In its breakdown of the 481 new cases reported from 15 states of the federation, NCDC stated the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 96 cases leaped over Lagos that recorded 89 cases on the day.
Others on the chart are: Plateau (68), Ogun (49), Edo (44), Rivers (43), Oyo (25), Osun (23), Delta (15), Enugu (11), Kano (7), Kaduna (7), Bauchi (2), Bayelsa (1), and Yobe (1)
Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) reports confirmed that between December 31, 2019 and 30 July 2020, over 17 005 983 cases of COVID-19 (in accordance with the applied case definitions and testing strategies in the affected countries) have been reported globally with about 666,857 deaths.
