- As Kwankwaso’s loyalists exit Gov Yusuf’s cabinet
- NNPP flags missing from Kano Gov’t House
Despite the changes political atmosphere in Kano State, the State government says anyone caught making inflammatory statements or insulting the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will be made to face the consequences of such actions.
Pointedly warning supporters of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to refrain from being abusive or disrespectful towards the former governor, the government warned in a statement that anything to the contrary will attract disciplinary measures.
According to the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government would not tolerate acts of indiscipline or disrespect towards Kwankwaso, describing him as a political leader whose role in Kano politics must be acknowledged, regardless of ongoing political developments.
Dawakin Tofa, who spoke during the distribution of motorcycles to party members at the Open Space Theatre, Government House, Kano, with Governor Yusuf in attendance, warned thus: “We will not accept indiscipline or insults against the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Anybody who engages in such behaviour will face the consequences. We will not accept it”
While urging supporters of the governor to conduct themselves with restraint and maturity, especially at a time of heightened political tension following recent realignments in the state’s political landscape, the Government House Spokesperson said the government remains committed to maintaining peace and internal cohesion among its supporters.
He also cautioned that political disagreements must not degenerate into personal attacks or abuse, stressing that respect for leaders and discipline within the political structure were essential for stability and effective governance.
The latest development is coming on the heels Governor Yusuf’s recent resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the party which has Senator Kwankwaso as its National Leader.
Though the Governor is yet to formally announce which party he has decided to join going forward, the development is currently generating mixed responses within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and Kano residents with supporters from both sides of the divide stoutly defending their position and making a case for their respective leaders.
Kwankwaso’s loyalists quit
However, worried by the developing story of changing political camps, some loyalists of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso serving under Governor Yusuf’s administration are taking a bow out of the Kano State cabinet.
Reports indicated that these loyalists have continued to resign their political appointments to register their displeasure over the Governor decision to dump the NNPP against the wish of their political godfather, Kwankwaso
A Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Sunusi Sirajo in a short video on social media, said he is resigning his appointment due to the resignation of the governor from NNPP, adding that he doesn’t want to be party to betrayal
Declaring his sole loyalty to their leader, Senator Kwankwaso, he explained that attempt to officially submit a resignation letter earlier were unsuccessful, saying: “After we got information that the governor has left the NNPP and there are expectations that he will join the APC, I submitted my resignation letter, but it was not accepted.
“I also sent the letter to the office of the Secretary to the State Government, but it was refused. I am making this video to publicly inform everyone that I have resigned my position as a political adviser. I appreciate the opportunity to serve and the work we did together over the past two years.”
Sunusi added that the video was meant to formally announce his resignation as a political adviser.
But in a swift reaction, the governor through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature has announced the appointment of a new Special Adviser on Political Matters, Mustapha Hamza Buhari to replace Sunusi Sirajo.
Others who resigned include, the provost, Anti-corruption Institute, Sumaila Abdullahi Esq, the Managing Director of Kano zoo, Sadiq Kura Mohammad, Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental and Foreign Affairs, Abdullahi Ahmad Namama among others.
Meanwhile, preparatory to the Governor Yusuf’s announcement of his new party, the flags of NNPP have been removed from the Kano State Government House. Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson to Governor, was seen in a short video, removing the party’s flag from the seat of power.
