DSS Parades Fake Officer In Taraba

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The Department of State Security Services (DSS), Taraba State Command has paraded a 45-year-old man, Ishaya Adamu Jonathan, for impersonating an SSS officer and defrauding people in Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba states.

Taraba State Director of the Service,​ Alhaji Bashir Abubakar said the suspect, Ishaya Jonathan was arrested a few days ago in Ambairi Hotel, along Donga Road, Jalingo, during an operation.

According to Abubakar, the suspect was hibernating in the hotel with his so-called wife whom he married deceitfully while impersonating a very senior officer of the Service.

Taraba​ State Assistant Director of DSS, S.A Balongun, who read a press statement on behalf​ of the Director, said Ishaya deceived unsuspecting members of the public about undergoing several trainings and operations, which he claimed earned him accelerated promotion to the rank of Assistant Director in the Service.

Balogun told newsman the suspect also lied to his victims, including his purported wife, about being recently transferred from Gombe to Nasarawa state.

“He was telling the lies in order to apparently cover up his fraudulent identity from his acclaimed wife and the general public”, the DSS statement said

“One of his latest victims was a 55 year old, a divorcée and mother of four whom he met in Gombe state early this year and proposed marriage, laced with deceitful intentions.

“The marriage was purportedly solemnised by a Mallam in Yola, Adamawa state in the absence of the said woman”, Balogun said.

According to him, Jonathan, who was hitherto a Christian, claimed to have converted to Islam and now bears Shaibu Adamu in order to fulfill one of the conditions offered as prerequisite for the marriage.

The DSS further said the suspect was discovered to have made away with several belongings of the professed wife to an elusive matrimonial apartment in Jalingo.

In addition, the suspect deceitfully collected the woman’s Honda Odyssey vehicle with a promise to buy her a brand new Toyota vibe car immediately the Service pays his leave allowance and other packages.

“He later turned the vehicle into a commercial venture,​ traversing Bauchi and Gombe states while deceiving the woman that he was at his new duty post in Nasarawa Command of the service and was not released to visit her because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the DSS stated.

Meanwhile, the Service has warned members of the public, especially those indulging themselves in this kind of criminal activities, to desist forthwith as such person or persons would be severely dealt with within the ambit of the law if caught in any devious scheme.
