Ekweremadu Urges Nigerians To Pray For Buhari

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has urged Nigerians to shun party affiliation and religious biases to pray for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is even as the people of Enugu West Senatorial District have endorsed the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for a second term in office.

Ekweremadu, who spoke at the Expanded Stakeholders Meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu West Senatorial District on Sunday, said the President represents Nigeria’s corporate personality and therefore deserves our prayers always.

According to him, “We must always remember that the President of the country, Muhammadu Buhari, is in London for medical treatment. We must pause at every opportunity to remember him in our prayers. This is not about PDP or All Progressives Congress (APC), or any other party for that matter. He is the President of every Nigerian, irrespective of political divide, ethnicity, and religion. Besides, we are all human and prone to illness. 

“It is, therefore, not only our prayers that God in his infinite mercy and grace will heal and bring him back at the earliest possible time to continue to lead this great country, but we also pray for divine vision, wisdom, and protection for him at all times. This is the least we owe him as a nation”.

On the people’s endorsement of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for a second term in office come 2019, the Deputy Senate President, who proposed a motion that was unanimously adopted by the epic assembly, said the administration has done well so far.

Making make good their support towards the governor’s re-election bid, Ekweremadu presented two 18-seater buses donated by Enugu West PDP assembly to the Governor.

In his remarks, member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Hon. Toby Okechukwu, said their massive support for Governor Ugwuanyi was in appreciation of his administration’s development efforts visible in every part of Enugu West, in addition to various political appointments being enjoyed by the people.

The event also witnessed the defection to the PDP of over 5,000 members of other political parties, notably, APC, Labour Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), among others. The Enugu West Zonal Chairman of PDP, Hon. Okey Ozoani and the State Chairman, Chirf Augustine Nnamani were on hand to receive the defectors.

In his speech, Governor Ugwuanyi, who announced that local government election in the State would hold later this year, said efforts were at advanced stage to move the College of Education (Technical), Enugu, to Ihe, Awgu LGA and upgrade it to a University of Education.
