BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – Currently neck deep in fine tuning the N30,000 new minimum wage structures for Nigerian workers, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC) now has a new leadership.

He is the former Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr Ekpo Nta.

Mr Nta takes over from the Commission’s Chairman, Chief Richard Egbule, who is quitting the scene after completing his statutory two terms of 10 years in office.

Competent sources hinted in Abuja that Nta, the current Commissioner for Compensation in the Commission, will take charge of its affairs in acting capacity until a formal pronouncement is made by the Presidency going forward.

Chief Press Secretary of the Commission, Mr Emma Njoku said in a statement that Chief Egbule described his tenure as historic given the privilege of being the first to complete two terms in office.

In his handing over speech, Chief Egbule also noted that he recorded another first as a pioneer staff of the Commission since inception in 1992 who rose to become its Chairman.

The former Chairman therefore urged all the staff to be fully acquainted with the Act establishing the Commission in order to enhance their mandate delivery to the government and Nigerian workers.

According to him, being well informed about their responsibilities will enable every staff to appreciate the Commission’s enormous contributions and importance to the development of the Federal Civil Service as well as the overall welfare of nation’s Public Service.

In his remarks at the handing over event, Mr Nta, commended Chief Egbule for his laudable achievements of streamlining the nation’s salary administration over the past years.

He assured that the Commission would work in line with the current administration to deliver on its Next Level agenda for Nigerian workers

Forefront gathered that Chief Egbule began his working career as an Administrative Officer on grade level 08 in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and rose to the post of Chief Management Consultant in the same office in 1992.

He became a pioneer staff of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission in 1992, working to structure and build the Commission in line with the best professional and governance practices.

In 2006, he was appointed the Secretary to the Commission while late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua approved his appointment as Executive Chairman of the Commission on August 17, 2009,

Chief Egbule’s second five year tenure at the Commission’s helms of affairs effectively ended on August 17, 2019.
