- As anti-graft agency takes control of high-stakes fraud investigation
Following his interception and subsequent arrest by operatives of the Department of State Services, the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, is now officially in the custody of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to answer questions regarding allegations of certificate forgery and financial irregularities during his time at the Ministry.
Insider sources at the anti-corruption agency said the Enugu-born politician, who was picked up at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Wednesday as he was about boarding a chartered private jet destined for Abuja, is fully cooperating with officials investigating the allegations brought against him.
According to security and agency sources, Nnaji, who resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) last October under controversial circumstances, was apprehended by the Secret Police at the request of ICPC after he allegedly failed to honour multiple investigative summons from the anti-graft agency.
The competent source said with the DSS dutifully enforcing a subsisting bench warrant, the former Minister was promptly transferred to the Commission’s custody for formal interrogation and further investigation into the forgery scandal.
