Gov Ganduje …charges new Emirs on peace, security and grassroots development

Amidst suppressed protestation by some stakeholders, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Saturday presented appointment letters to four newly appointed Emirs in the state.

Governor Ganduje’s action comes on the heels of a court order restraining the Kano State government and/or its agents from balkanizing the Kano Emirate

But a statement issued by the Kano State Government maintained that the order was ineffective as the appointments of the emirs took effect on Thursday, May 9, a day before the court order was issued on May 10, 2019 by 5pm.

Governor Ganduje, who presented the appointment letters to the new Emirs at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, urged them to work towards advancing peace, harmony and grassroots development across the state.‎

Ganduje charged the royal fathers to strive hard towards uniting the people of their areas, irrespective of their religious and political differences.

‎According to Governor Ganduje, their appointment is meant to encourage active and deeper participation of people of Kano State, especially in the rural communities, in the governance of the state.

He further stated that; “It will also encourage active participation of traditional rulers in the areas of agriculture, education, health and security.”‎

Governor Ganduje also charged all District Heads in the new emirates to cooperate and demonstrate high level of loyalty to the new emirs‎.

The newly appointed Emirs are: Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Emir of Bichi; Alhaji Tafida Abubakar 11 – Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya – Emir of Gaya; and Dr Ibrahim Abubakar 11 – Emir of Rano.

All the emirates were carved out of old Kano Emirate presided over by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi 11.

‎In their separate responses, the new Emirs expressed appreciation to Governor Ganduje, State Assembly and all dignitaries present at the occasion for their support, acknowledging that their presence showed love and support for the new emirates.

‎While promising to work for the peace, security and progress of Kano state, the new Emirs pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and people of Kano State, even as they also promised to carry everybody along in the new dispensation.

Among the dignitaries at the event were members of the National Assembly, State Assembly, members of the state executive council, traditional rulers and well wishers.

‎The Saturday’s occasion took place against the backdrop that a Kano High Court sitting at Ungogo on Friday granted an order restraining Governor Abdullahi Ganduje from taking any further action to legitimise the four new emirates of Rano, Bichi, Gaya and Karaye.

The order followed a suit filed by one Rabi’u Sule-Gwarzo challenging the Governor’s decision to create four additional emirates in the state.

In granting the interim injunction, the presiding Judge, Justice Nasiru Saminu, directed all parties involved in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice
