Insecurity: NSA, Service Chiefs Meet Northern Governors In Kaduna

A Federal Government delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno and the Service Chiefs had a town hall meeting with Governors of the Northern States towards finding a solution to the insecurity in the country.

The meeting which held at the Arewa House had top on its agenda the critical issues of Kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling and other security challenges in the country.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Lucky Irabor said the meeting is to intimate the governors and other leaders that the security situation in the North-west is of great concern to the Federal Government.

Irabor said that the Armed Forces is rejigging the nation’s security architecture in order to effectively tackle the security challenges in the zone and other parts of the country.

In his own speech, NSA Monguno, said the gathering is a fallout of his dialogue with the Service Chiefs, heads of Law enforcement, Security, and Intelligence Agencies to articulate the threats of kidnapping, terrorism, and other security issues threatening the lives and property of Nigerians.

Monguno assured that the Federal Government is deeply committed to tackling the security challenges confronting the entire country especially with the appointment of new Service Chiefs and therefore urged stakeholders including political and religious leaders to collaborate with the government towards finding lasting solutions to the problems.

In his own remarks, notable cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, noted that the recent conflict in the South-west zone is the handiwork of a few miscreants whose intention is to cause an ethnic crisis and called on all citizens especially those from the North to shun any form of reprisal but should promote things that will further unite the country.

Amongst those that attended the meeting include, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, the host governor of Kaduna State as well as governors of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara State.

Other stakeholders at the meeting included northern traditional rulers and some notable clerics.
