Jaba Local Government Legislative Speaker Impeached Over Incompetence

…Two others suspended indefinitely

BY ISRAEL BULUS, KADUNA – The Speaker of legislative arm of Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hon. Alhamdu Bala has been impeached while two others have been suspended indefinitely.

The Local Government Council Speaker was impeached following allegations raised by the majority Leader of the House, Hon. Pius Zom (Councilor Chori Ward) over self-centeredness, gross misconduct and incompetence to preside over the affairs of the House.

This was contained in a press statement dated June 11, 2019 and signed by Hon Pius Zom (Majority Leader) Councilor – Chori Ward, Ayuba Garba (Minority Leader) Councilor – Duya Ward, Manya Adamu (D/Speaker) Councilor – Sadu Ward, Danjuma Maicibi (Chief Whip) Councilor – Sambam Ward, Dauda Merrit Member, Clement Hassan member, Ayuba Ahmadu member.

Hon. Alhamdu Bala was impeached on 11th June, 2019 upon a motion moved by the majority leader of the House, Hon. Pius Zom (Councilor Chori Ward).

The motion which was seconded by Hon. Dauda Merrit (Councilor Fai Ward) and five other councilors, passed vote of no confidence on the speaker and moved for his impeachment

Those suspended indefinitely for disregarding the rules of the House are Hon Geoffrey Leo (Councilor Bitaro Ward) and Hon. Hassan Fai (Councilor Sab-Zuro Ward).

Accordingly, changes were immediately effected in a rowdy plenary session where Hon Clement Hassan (Councilor Sab-chem Ward) was elected as the new Speaker to preside over the affairs of the House.

Effort to get the reaction of the impeached Speaker proved abortive as his phone number was not reachable at the time of filling this report.
