BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The Kaduna State House of Assembly has turn down the confirmation of one of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai’s nominee for the portfolio of commissioner for Agriculture.

The rejected nominee, Alhaji Aliyu Jaafaru Abubakar, who appeared before the House for screening was dropped for being opposed to the policies and programmes of Governor El-Rufai in the past.

Speaker of the House, Hon Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, who presided over the sitting, said the rejection of the nominee was as a result of his criticisms of the El-Rufai’s government since 2017 in his social media platform.

Shagali said the nominee, Alhaji Jafaaru was found of criticising Governor El-Rufai’s educational policy, which the Speaker described as the best policy of the administration since 2017, particularly the disengagement of unqualified teachers in the state.

While quoting some of his posts by Jafaaru, the speaker said, “ln your face book account, you said there is nothing like making Kaduna state great again, it is a deceptive clinche used by politicians to deceive the masses, we will make Kaduna great at the appropriate time.

“It is a responsibility for those who are truly sincere not for those who are inherently sarcastic, You also said El-Rufai must learn to tackle issues with human face, and said you are an advocate of change that goes to the root and cause not only the symptoms.

“You also said in the same post, stop comparing me with El-Rufai, who thinks he is more intelligent than intelligence itself.

“You however said you are a humble human being that believes that all that glitters is not gold there is nothing authoritarian in insisting on the truth and never speak the truth. I detest insincerity as there are better ways of genuinely solving problems,” the speaker recalled.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the plenary, Chairman of the House committee on Media and Public Affairs,  Hon Tanimu Musa, said the rejection of the nominee was as a result of his criticisms of the present administration.

He said; “The evil that men do lives after them. Jaafaru has been a critic of this administration on social media. The nominee has been criticizing the government, so why does he want to work with the government he has been criticizing?”

The nominee, Alhaji Jafaaru was not allowed to explain himself before his rejection was announced by the Speaker which was unanimously supported by the entire House

Other nominees screened and confirmed include, Mr. Thomas Gyang – Commissioner for Planning and Budget Commission, Hassan Usman Mahmud – Commissioner in the Governor’s office for Riots, Damage, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, and Atiku Musa as Auditor General for Local Government.

Similarly, the speaker announced that the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe, would serve as the acting commissioner for Health pending when a substantive commissioner will be appointed.
