Killings: Zamfara Monarchs Task Political Leaders On Justice

Monarchs from Zamfara State have tasked government to ensure justice for all as means to checkmating incessant killings in the state.
Emir of Anka and chairman of Zamfara State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness Attahiru Ahmad Anka, has said that government should ensure justice ensure justice economic opportunities for citizens in order to stop the incessant killings in the state.
Speaking when members of the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP), who were on an advocacy visit, called on him in his palace, the monarch urged political leaders to rise up to the challenge of ensure the safety of lives and property.
According to him, when there is justice and fair play, then society can progress for development. He urged all hands to be on deck to ensure peace and unity amongst the people.
He told the IDFP team that he was delighted to see them in Anka and advised them to meet with relevant stakeholders in search of lasting peace.
“I am delighted to welcome you to Anka and to commend the efforts of IDFP in bringing peace. I have been monitoring your activities in the media and I commend your genuine efforts in the promotion of peace.
“We need unity and firmness of purpose to achieve peace. I call on our political leaders to ensure enforcement of laws without let or hindrance. In our own little way, we have been involved in searching for peace and mobilising our subjects for the attainment of peace”, he said.
In Chafe, the emir, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa Chafe, called on security agencies to increase vigilance in tackling criminal activities. He called on government to provide employment opportunities for the youth in order to tackle the menace of banditry and kidnappings, among other crimes.
In his words, “What I see as the main cause of these killings and other crimes is greed. People are so enmeshed in the quest for wealth that they easily forget that they are not going to live forever. I appeal to the state and Federal Government to work towards provision of jobs for the people. Religious leaders should also be involved in appealing to their followers to embrace peace.”
Addressing the monarchs in their respective domains during the advocacy visit, Head of the IDFP team, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu, who is the Dankaden Bauchi, said the IDFP team was in Zamfara State to not only commiserate with the people over the killings, but also engage relevant stakeholders in the search for peace. He told the monarchs that IDFP is an interfaith organisation that is supported by the Vienna-based King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, globally known as the KAICIID Dialogue Centre.
Speaking also, a member of the team, Rev Dr James Wuye, thanked the monarchs for receiving the team and said IDFP was committed to the promotion of dialogue and peaceful co-existence among adherents of various faiths.
