BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – Five years after irreconcilable differences over electoral matters saw some key labour leaders parting ways, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the splinter group, United Labour Congress (ULC), have reunited and collapsed into the once indivisible labour movement family.
Led by Joe Ajaero, General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the aggrieved labour leaders broke away in 2015 to form a united labour movement.
Disagreements during the 2015 delegates conference to elect new leadership for the NLC had driven a wedge between them leading both sides to go their separate ways.
However, the cheering news of reconciliation broke on Thursday in Abuja with the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, confirming the development.
Wabba told journalists at the end of a joint session meeting addressed by the two leaders of the unions that all issues of contention have been addressed and resolved amicably.
He said with the latest development, the leadership of the ULC has been fully and effectively re-integrated into the NLC’s fold
Forefront gathered that in the spirit of ‘give and take’ as part of the reconciliation process, Comrade Ajaero was announced as the new Deputy President of the NLC.
