Man In Police Net For Killing Wife’s Lover

For his uncontrollable anger that had him allegedly killing a Chief Imam accused of dating his wife, a man identified as Umar Jibril is currently chatting with the Niger State Police Command

A resident of Enagi village, in Edati Local Government Area of the State, Jibril was arrested for purportedly stabbing to death with an iron rod, one Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan, the Chief Imam of Edagi.

According to the Niger State Police Commissioner, Adamu Usman, the suspect was arrested on Monday, April 12, “at about 0100 hours, based on credible information”.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that while relaxing in front of his house, on Monday; the deceased walked past him and went towards his neighbour’s house.

He claimed that about the same time, his second wife, Aishatu Umar, also came out of the compound and indicated she was going to the toilet, just behind the compound.

The suspect further told the Police that after awaiting her return for some time; he went round to search for his wife and later heard her voice in the neighbour’s house.

Jibril said on entering the house, he met the deceased with his wife; adding that he immediately left the scene and rushed to a brother; one Abubakar Abdulrahman, to inform him of what he saw.

The suspect claimed that not long after, the deceased sent for him so that they could both discuss the issue at stake.

According to the suspect, in the course of their discussion, a heated argument ensued. Thereafter, he grabbed an iron rod and stabbed the deceased on the neck, leading to his demise.

The Police boss said the suspect, who fled from the area after the incident, was pursued to Batati village in Lavun Local Government area, where the Police eventually arrested him.

CP Usman however assured that “Investigation has commenced and the suspect will be arraigned as soon as the investigation is completed.”
