The Nigeria Police has said that if communities are well organised, it makes the job of policing easy in checking criminal activities in the society.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sabon Tasha Division, Kaduna, Paul Timbushi, who stated this when he received in audience the Executive Committee members of the Tsaunin Kura Residents Association (Sabon Tasha GRA) noted that when communities are organised, it reduces the job of the police, adding that is the purpose of community policing.
These were contained in a statement the Executive Public Relations Officer (EPRO) of Tsaunin Kura Residents Association (Sabo GRA), Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson which quoted Timbushi as having said; “We advise people that whenever you have an information, you don’t just hand it over, you approach the DPO, DCO so you can have confidentiality.
“The lesser ranks might not know this, not that they meant harm, but they ignorantly divulge such information,” he said.
The DPO however assured members of the community that the Police is solidly behind them and would collaborate with them in ensuring a secured environment.
Timbushi also advised the community to ensure that Okada riders operating in the area are registered and documented for easy tracking, adding that it would make it difficult for non-registered or criminally motivated members to operate in the community.
Commenting on vigilante group, the DPO said the police usually form it jointly with communities even as the police cede it to the community to nominate those without questionable characters to safe guard them.
He further said; “You will do the nomination and bring for us, then we will screen. We cannot work in isolation. If we get it right, the community will be better for it. You will not hear of house breaking or other petty crime”.
While commending the community for being united, Timbushi said that what Tsaunin Kura Residents Association are about doing is a laudable idea and therefore assured of all the necessary support.
Earlier, the President General of Sabo GRA Residents, Comrade Silas Adamu commended the police for the role it plays in ensuring peace in the society.
Adamu said; “We hope to partner with you in ensuring our community is better secured”.
Other members of the executive committee that were part of the courtesy visit included the Vice President General, Mr. Joseph Onoja, Assistant Secretary, Patrick Fumen, Treasurer, Jonah Silas, Financial Secretary, Appolos Shinkut, Youth Leader, Jonah Adua Kure, Welfare Secretary, Cletus Ogbonna, Auditor Emmanuel Zuahu and Executive PRO, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson.
