The ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed by members of the Assembly 48 days ago, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, stormed the Assembly and declared himself Speaker.
Obasa was surrounded by heavily armed security personnel.
Obasa, who reportedly arrived at the Assembly at about 12:05 pm, and was accompanied by two lawmakers allegedly loyal to him, went straight into the Speaker’s office while other lawmakers, loyal to Mojisola Meranda, watched the unfolding drama.

This was as all entry and exit points of the Assembly were closed following protesters that stormed the Assembly to protest against the withdrawal of the security personnel attached to Speaker Meranda.
In a surprise move, the police withdrew all of its personnel assigned to Speaker Meranda and also security personnel guarding the Assembly complex that were suddenly withdrawn without notice and or explanation.
The development left Speaker Meranda and the legislative house dangerously exposed, thereby raised serious concerns about the motives behind it.
The crisis which began on January 13, 2025 following the removal of Obasa over alleged financial impropriety and gross misconduct, witnessed his replacement with his deputy, Hon
Meranda while Hon Fatai Mojeed was elected as Deputy Speaker.
However, Obasa approached a High Court of Lagos State on January 14 to challenge his removal.
