BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA A member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) representing Nasarawa State, Mr Mamman Alakayi has raised alarm over presentation of fake documents at the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

Speaking with journalist at the Nasarawa State police command along Shendam Road, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Alakayi said that he will ensure that only those with original and genuine documents are recruited from the state.
Alakayi said that some applicants were caught presenting fake indigene certificates during the exercise which negates the principles of the exercise, saying that he will work with the police to ensure sanity.
He said that some people outside Nasarawa are using their relations residing in the state to present fake indigene certificate for recruitment into the police force.
According to Alakayi; “That some people reside in this state does not mean they are not indigenes. They have every right to claim here but our concern is that some of their relations and fellow nationalities that are in other states find cover under these people to come and claim here. That is the kind of thing we are saying no.
“From the western and the northern senatorial zone, we are able to screen out some applicants who came from other states.
“I am in the state to monitor the exercise to ensure only genuine indigenes of the state are recruited for the exercise.
“As a guideline, when the recruitment exercise is going on, federal character must be present to ensure that the guidelines are strictly followed. We are monitoring to ensure that each and every segment of the state is given a level playing ground to participate and police authority will now use their own parameters to see who qualifies based on the
laid down criteria because police have allocated equitably across the state.
“Indigene certificates from the state are supposed to be signed by some categories of people from the Local Government areas to make it genuine”
“I will do everything within my powers constitutionally to ensure that the people of the state are fairly represented and not short changed or left behind at the federal civil service as their representatives
at the commission.
“The turnout has been overwhelming compared to other exercises in the past that I was privileged to monitor. This one has the largest turnout,” Alakayi said.
