Sen Uzodinma Salutes Supreme Court Over Restored Mandate
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has commended the Supreme Court for restoring his stolen mandate.
The Governor-elect said the latest judgment further lends credence to his believe and confidence in the nation’s judiciary that has remained unwavering over the years.
In a statement by Declan Emelumba, his Special Adviser on Media, Senator Uzodinma said; “Yes today, my mandate given to me by the people of Imo state has been restored by the highest court in the land.
“This means that the victory given to me by the people, but denied me, has been restored. I give glory and thanks to God Almighty.”
The statement said the new governor is expected to arrive Owerri, the Imo State capital tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15, to take leadership and address the people
The Supreme Court, while declaring the APC flag-bearer, Senator Uzodinma, as the legally elected governor of Imo state, ordered that he be sworn in immediately.
It also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return from former Governor Emeka Ihedioha and issue Senator Uzodinma with a new one as the duly elected governor of the state.
Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun said the votes due to Uzodinma and APC from 318 polling units were wrongly excluded and should therefore be added to the initial tally.
