The incessant arrest of indigenes of Southern Kaduna over allege attempts to defend themselves from attacks has come to the front burner of national politics as the Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani, openly condemned it and described it as shadow chasing.
Senator Sani pointedly said that the arrest of the indigenes over self defence cannot and will not solve the problem.
Senator Sani, who stated this while speaking with APC elders in Barnawa, Kaduna, said the ugly situation in Southern Kaduna is not an exception to Northern Kaduna, adding that there is need for all hands to be on deck with the view to nip the situation with all sense of sincerity.
According to him; “If there is no peace in Southern Kaduna, there is no way Kaduna State will be in peace. We must stay together so long as God brought us as one.
“Southern Kaduna is faced with the problems of Christians and Muslims that have been there for years. Clashes between farmers and herdsmen, visitors and indigenes and people who hide in the bush to attack innocent people at night for no reason.
“What is happening now in Southern Kaduna has happened in Birnin Gwari, Zamfara and other parts of the state. There must be a holistic approach in stemming the situation. A poor man in Southern Kaduna is faced with the same problem with a man from Zaria which is caused by corruption.
“During Sardauna, there was no difference between a Kataf man, a man from Kano and a man from Katsina, but today showing differences has grown to be a cancer in our generation.”
Sani urged APC Barnawa elders to be conscious of some political leaders who do not care about their wellbeing, adding that very soon they would start seeing them and their posters, stressing that the colossal amount of money been spent on the media to attack and insult him is enough to carry out good projects.
He urged the party elders to deliberate and come up with a project that would benefit the entire Barnawa community which would be sponsored by him.
In their different submissions, the elders commended Senator for identifying with them, stressing that they have not benefitted anything from government.
“We are facing challenges of youth unemployment and women not being empowered. It is our hope that our problems will be solved through you,” the party elders chorused.
They assured Senator Sani of their support for his governorship ambition in 2019.
