Sowore Regains Freedom From DSS Detention

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Detained Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 election, and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has been released from the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore, who spent over 120 days in the custody of the DSS was released on Thursday following a stern warning and directive by a Federal High Court that he should be released within 24 hours.

Sowore’s lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana had told the court that the DSS had consistently denied him access to his client and therefore asked for adjournment of the case to enable him prepare his defence.

The court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu awarded N100,000 against the DSS for disobeying an order of the court for the release of activist Sowore.

Justice Ojukwu ruled that the DSS cannot constitute itself as a parallel court and accordingly adjourned the case to Friday, December 6, 2019 for trial and to check compliance with the court order granting Sowere bail.

Omoyele was arrested at Radisson Blue Hotel suite on August 3, 2019 in Lagos and taken to Abuja by operatives of the DSS and was later charged to court for treason and terrorism.

Sowore had championed a crusade for a nationwide protests against the Federal Government which he tagged; #RevolutionNow Days of Rage.
