BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) on Monday announced that it has scheduled the conduct of Local Government Councils election to hold on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr Philip Duwe, who announced this to newsmen in Jalingo, said that the election earlier scheduled for 2019 could not take place as a result of security challenges in the state.

Duwe said that the budget for the conduct of the polls was approved since 2019 but elections could not hold.

According to him; “Today, Feb 10, 2020, the commission wishes to announce the commencement of the process to the conduct of the local government elections into the 16 councils and 168 council wards in the state.

“The process will go on within the minimum 90 days notice as required by law and elections will be conducted by May 16, 2020.”

The Taraba State electoral boss appealed to political parties and politicians to play by the rules in order to pave way for a peaceful election.

Forefront News reports that the tenure of office of the Local Government Chairmen in the state expired several months ago as caretaker committee chairmen are currently holding the offices.
