BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Forum of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairmen has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to terminate what it described as an “unholy voyage” against the leadership of Nigeria’s main opposition party.

This is as the Forum also warned Nigerians will stiffly resist the muzzling of opposition Parties by any group of power drunk individuals, who want to perpetuate themselves in office through undemocratic means come 2023.

In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, (PRO) and Chairman of Nassarawa State chapter of PDP, Hon. Francis Orogu,
the Forum urged the anti-graft Agency to retrace its step from the path “that can only lead the Country to doom.”

The Forum, which expressed confidence in the party’s leadership led by National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, also advised EFCC to stay within its core mandate as provided for in the statute books

Full text of the statement titled; “EFCC: Position of Forum of PDP State Chairmen” read thus; “The Forum of PDP State Chairmen has taken note of the invitation of EFCC extended to the national leadership of our great and main opposition Party, the PDP.

“The Forum, having consulted among its members, wishes to state as follows :- a). That the monitoring of Political Parties funds is the legal and constitutional duty of INEC and not that of EFCC;

b). That INEC has not raised any issue on the generation and management of the finances of the PDP as a Party;
c). That EFCC has never, to our knowledge, questioned the management of finances of any Political Party in Nigeria;
d). That the laws establishing both EFCC and INEC are very clear as to their respective functions;
e). That Nigeria is a multi-party democracy and NOT a One Party Democracy;
f). That EFCC and indeed all Government Agencies and Institutions should not be involved in anything that will threathen the growth of Democracy in Nigeria; and
g). That we will not allow any Agency or Institution of Government to tamper with the cherished rights of Nigerians to hold and share their views through identification with any legally and constitutionally recognized Association.

“The Forum therefore advises EFCC to, without delay, terminate this unholy voyage that can only lead the Country to doom.

“The EFCC is further advised to restrict itself to its core mandate as provided for in its statutes.

“As 2023 draws near, the muzzling of opposition Parties by any group of power drunk individuals, who want to perpetuate themselves in office through undemocratic means will be stiffly resisted.

“Finally the Forum stands very firmly behind the National Leadership of our great Party, headed by our National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

“Our confidence in the NWC of the Party remains solid and unshaken.”

Signed:
Hon. Francis Orogu,
Forum PRO and State Chairman, Nassarawa State.
