Tiv/Jukun Crisis: Return To Yours Homes – Governor Ishaku Tells Fleeing Communities

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has called on the people of Chonku village that fled their homes to Wukari town in the wake of the Tiv/Jukun crisis to return to their homes.

Iskaku, who made the call on Thursday at the foundation laying ceremony of Military and Police base at Chonku village, a border town between Benue and Taraba States, said that the security base will provide security to the village which share a common border with Benue state.

He described as unfortunate that the two border communities fought themselves instead of living in peace, adding; “I want to appeal to the people of Chonku who relocated to Wukari town as a result of the crisis to come back and resume their normal activities as peace has returned to the area”.

Ishaku also said that his administration is doing its best to address insecurity and communal crisis in the state and therefore assured the community that adequate security will be provided them by the military and the police to enable them go about their normal activities without fear of attack.

The Governor further said; “Both Taraba and Benue states need peace and the people should be encouraged to co-exist peacefully”.

Forefront had reported that Chonku village located at the boundary between Taraba and Benue states was sacked during the Tiv/Jukun crisis during which the entire people ran to Wukari town for safety.
