Tribunal Verdict: Gov Yahaya, Sen Kalu Hail Buhari’s Victory
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has described the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) verdict as an affirmation of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s overwhelming victory at the 2019 elections.
This is as Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, also described the Tribunal judgment as good for Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement signed by Mr Ismaila Misilli, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity on Thursday, Governor Yahaya said; “On behalf of all the APC family in Gombe State, I join numerous well wishers and lovers of democracy in Nigeria and the world over to rejoice with our dear president, Muhammadu Buhari.
“I also congratulate the leadership of our great party for the Tribunal judgemnt. This is indeed a victory for democracy and confirmation of the mandate freely given to the president by the overwhelming majority of the populace.
“We in Gombe State are particularly elated with the unanimous judgment.’’
The governor also praised the judiciary for serving justice through transparent justice delivery which he said would help deepen the judicial process in Nigeria.
On his part, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu described the Tribunal’s ruling as a re-affirmation of the President’s popularity among Nigerians.
The former Abia State governor said the 2019 presidential poll provided another opportunity for Nigerians to compensate Buhari for his good works.
Kalu, who acknowledged the role of the judiciary in sustaining the nation’s democracy, urged politicians to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship in the interest of national development.
He commended the panel for the judgment and expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their firm confidence in the president and his team.
“President Buhari’s victory is a testament to the unprecedented achievements of the current administration. I join other Nigerians in celebrating the verdict of the tribunal. President Buhari’s pedigree and goodwill will always speak for him.
“The president as a strong advocate of democracy, provided a level playing ground for candidates across political parties in the 2019 general elections.
“President Buhari’s leadership style is highly commendable. With the judgment of the tribunal, the opposition and other stakeholders should join hands with the President in his determined efforts to reposition Nigeria,” he said.
The former governor also applauded the level of maturity displayed by President Buhari before, during and after the polls and charged the political class to embrace the tenets of democracy in their endeavours.
According to him, the unity of Nigeria remained non-negotiable, just as he also congratulated Mr Adams Oshiomole, the National Chairman of APC, stakeholders and members of the party for a well deserved victory at the Tribunal.
Kalu, whose election as the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial district was recently annulled by National Assembly election petition tribunal, however urged Nigerians to be calm, steadfast and law-abiding. – With agency reports
