A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Umar Sani, has declared that the conditions for peace in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as rolled out by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, were untenable and completely undemocratic.
Sani, who spoke against the backdrop of the expulsion of Wike and some members of his group, said that the former governor of Rivers State insisted that the PDP must not field a presidential candidate in 2027 election as a major condition for reconciliation and for peace to reign in the party.
The former spokesman to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, noted that it was clear that Wike was out to completely destroy the party which was left with no option that to show him and his bunch of cliques the way out of the PDP.
Sani, who stated these when he was featured on Arise News interview on Sunday, November 16, 2025, said the party tried severally and through different Chieftains of the Party, but failed to reconcile with Wike owing to his insistence on only what he wanted as if the PDP was his personal property.
In the words of Sani; “The PDP reconciliation committee approached Wike in a bid to restore unity within the party, but he insisted on an extraordinary condition — that the PDP must completely forgo presenting a presidential candidate in 2027”.
The PDP Chieftain described Wike’s stance as a declaration of political war, making peaceful resolution unattainable.
According to him; “The condition Wike gave the PDP reconciliation committee is that the PDP must agree not to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, and that is the only condition he will allow peace, otherwise, this is a fight to finish,” he explained.
Sani said that given the untenable condition, the PDP leadership found the demand as impossible and unreasonable, a development that justified Wike’s expulsion at the national convention in Ibadan.
He also declared that the presence or absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the convention does not invalidate the proceedings, stressing that there are relevant electoral laws and court orders that affirm the legality of the PDP National Convention.
