2019 AFCON: Senegal Pip Tunisia 1-0 For Final Ticket
BY COBHAM NSA – The Teranga Lions of Senegal out-muscled the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to reach the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final for just the second time in their football history.
The decider was Dylan Bronn’s own goal 10 minutes into the extra time and it was enough to give the Senegalese a 1-0 win over the Tunisians in the action-packed semi-final played inside the June 30 Stadium in Cairo.
The encounter which was full dramatic moments saw both teams missing penalties in the second half of the pulsating 120 minutes of football.
Before reaching the semi-final round, the 2002 runners-up edged past East African opponents, Cranes of Uganda and West African neighbours, the Squirrels of Benin Republic with 1-0 victories in the previous two knockout rounds.
The tension-soaked match saw the Teranga Lions maintaining their impressive defensive record in Cairo as they eventually found a way past unfortunate Tunisia, who were denied another clear penalty late on.
