World Champion and Commonwealth Games record holder, Hurdler Tobi Amusan was on fire as she propelled Nigeria’s 4×100 women’s relay quartet to smash the African record at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Lining up on Sunday at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, the quartet of Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, Rose Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha shocked the capacity crowd with their scintillating delivery to win the race, setting a new African Record of 42.10 seconds.

The victory gave Team Nigeria its 11th gold medal in Birmingham and a historic Commonwealth Games medal. The quartet also became the first Nigerian women’s relay team (Women’s 4x100m or 4x400m) to win a Commonwealth Games title.

Amusan started the race and handed the baton to Favour Ofili, who passed it on to Rosemary Chukwuma, with Grace Nwokocha, finishing it off in a grand style.

Earlier in the morning, Amusan had also won the Women’s 100m hurdles, creating a new Commonwealth Games record of 12.30 seconds in the process.
