Applaud South Africa’s ‘Bafana Bafana’ as ‘better’ performers

Less than 24 hours after the 2022 FIFA World Cup flagged off in the South Asian nation of Qatar, African Football fans and pundits are already in agreement that 2010 World Cup hosts, South Africa will be removing that toga of being the worst performing host nation at the global tournament

Following their 2-0 defeat to Ecuador in Sunday’s opening match inside Al-Bayt Stadium, the feeling among fans is that with their shambolic display, Qatar are on course to break South Africa’s unwanted record of more than 12 years ago.

After becoming the first hosts to lose their opening World Cup match, the Asian nation is being dragged by soccer fans as standing no chance of overcoming either the Netherlands or Senegal, who are their next group opponents.

Consequently, such results would see the Qataris performing worse than South Africa when the national team, Bafana Bafana started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Mexico before losing 3-0 to the fire power of South American side,  Uruguay.

However, the South Africans narrowly missed out on the Round of 16 on goal difference after beating France 2-1 in their final group match.
