2023 Campaign Posters: Time Not Yet Ripe – Gov Umahi
BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi says there is no reason to jump the gun ahead of the 2023 presidential race, insisting that the time is not yet ripe for any such political activity.
He spoke against the backdrop of campaign posters currently circulating on social media, indicating his readiness to actively participate in the 2023 presidential contest.
And disowning the posters in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze, the Ebonyi Chief Executive and Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum said on Tuesday that he has no hands in such posters seen at strategic locations across the country.
According to Nwaze; “The governor did not authorise such posters though it can be admitted that such moves may be in good faith.
“The governor understands that the move may be a show of solidarity and true belief in his ingenuity to contribute to the development of the country.
“It should, however, be noted that the governor being a respecter of constituted authority, could not have launched such campaign when the electoral umpire has not opened the window for such exercise.”
“The governor as a believer in the mandate of God will wait for divine directive and heed to the clarion call only when directed,” the governor media aide said.
The statement further said the governor was presently occupied with delivering dividends of democracy to the good people of Ebonyi state.
“He is also contributing in repositioning the southeast zone and toward nation-building,” it said.
