BY UBON EKANEM – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially flagged off its 2023 presidential campaign in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Monday with its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, urging Nigerians to vote for the party to ensure good governance and security of the nation.

He said the Party is committed to rescuing Nigeria from the bad leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Akwa Ibom people and all Nigerians should vote for the PDP to restore unity, salvage the economy, and ensure the security of lives and property in the country.

The former Vice President said the country was better positioned in all areas of national life when the PDP held sway at the centre than what is currently obtained under the APC administration.

Insisting that Nigeria’s economy was better under the PDP and urging voters to return the party to power, Atiku said; “Today, we are inaugurating our campaign to rescue Nigeria from poverty, insecurity, and bad governance. Therefore, I urge you to vote for the PDP.

“When you vote for PDP there will be no more hunger and insecurity. If you vote for the PDP there will be unity in Nigeria”, he further assured the cheering crowd at the event greeted with commitments from PDP stakeholders to ensure the party is victorious in the next year’s presidential election.

Also addressing the gathering, PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyochia Ayu, thanked Nigerians for coming out in numbers to grace the campaign flag-off, saying the party’s campaign train is leaving the station slowly so that those yet to get on board can join the winning team.

He said Nigerians were anxiously waiting for PDP to return to power to rescue the country and restore the economy, promising that; “We will restore the economy and there will be jobs for the teeming youths of this country; we need your support to restore the country. PDP will not disappoint you”.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, who also doubles as the Chairman of the PDP Campaign Council, said the campaign was to revitalise Nigeria and restore hope to the country.

He said the PDP’s presidential candidate has the capacity to unite the country and urged Nigerians to support him to eradicate poverty; hunger and insecurity from the country come 2023.

Governor Emmanuel further said; “Today, we flag off the campaign to bring hope to Nigerians. All Nigerians are expected to join the movement to rescue the country.

“Nigeria is a great country. We call on all Nigerians to join hands and build Nigeria and bring the country back. We need a president who knows the solution to our problems”.

A major highlight of the campaign flag-off was the National Chairman, Dr Ayu handing over the PDP flag to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to roaring cheers of the crowd gathered inside the Nest of Champions International Stadium, Uyo.

Reports also indicate that party stalwarts, including governors, ex-governors, National Assembly members, and Board of Trustees members led by acting Chairman and former Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and National Working Committee (NWC) members, stormed Uyo with no fewer than 15 private and chartered jets for the formal inauguration of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2023 poll.

However, conspicuously absent at the event were the Governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and his counterparts in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; Benue State, Samuel Ortom; Abia State, Ikpeazu Okezie; and Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
