BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The President of African Development Bank (AfDB) Akinwunmi Adesina, has described as “untrue, mischievous and fraudulent” claims that he has endorsed the former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria’s presidency come 2023.

A statement refuting the endorsement by his Senior Advisor on Communications, Victor Oladokun, said “For the avoidance of doubt, no such statement or endorsement has been made by the President of AfDB.”

Oladokun clearly distanced the AfDB’s boss from a photograph circulating on social media with a statement purportedly endorsing Tinubu, insisting that Adesina has never issued any such statement.

Part of the discredited statement attributed to Adesina read: “If Senator Bola Tinubu could make Lagos the 5th richest economy in Africa and the safest State in Nigeria then be sure that he will as Nigeria President.”

But in refuting the endorsement, Oladokun insisted that Adesina did not issue the statement, adding; “For the avoidance of doubt, no such statement or endorsement has been made by the President of AfDB.”

The National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Tinubu had on Monday, January 10, 2022, formally announced his interest in vying for Nigeria’s number one seat in the 2023 presidential election.
