2023: Identify Women With Credible Credentials – NCWS Tasks NGOs
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Bauchi State chapter has tasked Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to assist in scouting for credible and qualified female political activists ahead of the 2023 general elections with a view to check the domination of the political space by men.
Chairperson of the NCWS, Mrs Shafau Ladan Yusuf, who gave the task in Bauchi at the weekend as part of activities lined up for the 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration organized by Fahimta Women And Youth Development Initiative (FAWOYDI), attributed the defeat of women political office seekers to wrong choice of candidates and the emergence of unqualified female aspirants during party primaries.
She said; “If a female aspirant is truly qualified, why must a political party buy form for her? You should know that this trick will lead to the emergence of the least qualified female candidates who normally enjoys the support of party officials as against a woman of integrity, so watch out”.
Also speaking, the Director General of the SDGs office in Bauchi, Dr Esther Ahmed implored CSOs in the state to assist in mobilizing support and funds for women seeking leadership positions in the state.
She said that this has become necessary since our male counterparts are always financially buoyant and will continue to gain support in our traditional setting”.
Earlier, the Executive Director of Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative, Hajia Maryam Garba commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration for appointing women to head key agencies of government and expressed the hope that such an initiative would be replicated at the local government level.
